14 Day Summer Cleanse: Day 3

Today may bring some new challenges and new interactions to you as many of us return to work. Be prepared for lots of questions from co-workers. Invite them to join in! Here’s what you’ll need to know for Day 3…

DAY 3

1. Daily Affirmation: “I am doing the best I can with the time I have.”

Another favorite variation on this one is “I’m doing the best I can for the circumstance I’m in.” Being that it’s Monday, I’m sure some of us will encounter a challenging moment where we we feel we just don’t have enough time. At the beginning of every school year I feel the most stress out of the whole year. There is just never enough time to get everything done and negative thoughts start flooding through my head about how horrible the parents are going to thing I am as a teacher. Reality is: they probably don’t have the expectations I have of myself, and I’m probably doing a pretty good job anyway seeing how much it bothers me that I’m not doing enough! So, do your best this morning- including with this Cleanse and forgive yourself if you’re not perfect. If you fall, pick yourself back up for the next opportunity and give it your best with the time you have!

2. Today’s Menu:

Breakfast- green tea, Peachberry Smoothie (2 peaches pitted, 10 strawberries, 4-6 kale leaves, 3 ice cubes, 1 – 1 1/2 cup water)

Snack- continue drinking Peachberry smoothie, piece of fruit if needed.

Lunch- BIG salad (1 head chopped romaine, 1 chopped tomato, 1/2 yellow bell pepper, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 diced cucumber, 1/2- 1 cup sprouted or cooked lentils, 1/2 cup shredded almonds, 1/4 cup red onion, 1/2 cup blueberries, olive oil/ vinegar)

Snack- 1 sliced apple and almond butter, Red-Green Juice (1 beet, 4 sticks celery) Use juicer. Add a few carrots for a sweeter juice if you’d like!

Dinner- Green Delicious Smoothie (5 kale leaves with stems, 1/2 avocado, 3 garlic cloves, 1/2 lime juiced, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 2 Roma tomatoes, 1/2 pepper, water as desired.) Add various vegetables of your choice if you’re feeling you need more.

Dessert- naturally caffeine free herbal tea with stevia

3. Daily Questions:

What was challenging logistically today in preparing for the foods in the Cleanse?

Which are you enjoying more- the smoothies or the salads?

  1. Hi Courtney,
just want to thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge that you have done so much research on. your story is so inspiring. today was easier for me than yesterday, except when I made venison stew for my 17 month old, of course I had to taste the broth ( A Few Times) to make sure it was just right. it was very hard not to just go ahead and have a bowl. but I finished off with my smoothie which actually I found quite the satisfying and fIlling! plus my daughter likes to enjoy the smoothies with me and the evening Chamomile Tea 🙂

  2. Hi Cortney!

I started this cleanse on Monday after finding your blog a few weeks ago.
So far so good! Avoiding coffee has been hard AND sweets, but I definitely FEEL good! 🙂

Also, since I’m starting this cleanse out of season (I see you started in the Summer) I couldn’t find any peaches in stores, so I am just using more apples. 🙂

    Thanks for this! 🙂

    • Hi Lua!

YEAH! I’m glad you found it. Please offer me any feedback or suggestions along the way. I plan on modifying it again this summer to improve it. (: Great plan about subbing the apples. Perfect for Fall!

      Cortney

  3. Today was really a good day. I enjoyed everything on the menu except for the red-green juice, I just cant get past that. I did wake up really sluggish (I’m used to my morning cup of joe) and I’ve had a headache and general ill feeling for the last day.

Thanks again Cortney because I could not have done this without all of your planning and knowledge.

Answers: 1) Well I’m really fortunate to work out of my home so the prep work hasnt really been a huge problem. I organize everything on a daily basis trying to do it all for the whole week seems overwhelming to me. 2) I like the salads better so far, even without meat or cheese. It’s amazing to me how good veggies are. I would have never thought about putting blueberries in my salad but they were so yummy.

  4. @ Cortney
no hint for you to get up early and post … you do it in your time and I follow after

    – in the big picture it doesn’t matter if you have day 3 before or after day 4 .
what matters when cleansing is the use of organic produce ( when possible), getting variety of nutrition and taste and AVOID processed food, dairy and meat.
    – best of all is having you using your time to get this planned and organized … I could not have done the transformation alone and without your cleanse creation … in only a few days I have gotten a ton of inspiration and tried new delicious food combinations … I feel I am back on the right track … it really helps me we do this together, … Cortney , I can’t thank you enough.

  5. Cortney has posted the blueberry smoothie … it is very easy on the taste buds
    2 c blueberries + 1 banana +2 celery stalks + 2 cups of water … very delicious.

    I like pineapple and celery
    blueberries and parsley

most of the time ( when not cleansing) I do
1/2 c pineapple, a few strawberries and a banana plus ( 300gr) a little more than 1/2 lb baby greens or mix of kale, spinach, swiss char, parsley etc … as much I can fit in the container

  6. Courtney, I just got a brand new Vitamix yesterday and I’m so excited! I didn’t start the cleanse with you because I have a friend coming in town this week, my birthday this weekend and all kinds of other reasons raw eating wouldn’t work for a full 14 days right now, but I’m trying to experiment with some recipes. Can you recommend a good “intro” green smoothie…something that maybe has a more palatable taste?

  7. I use yesterdays menu for today … I like to prepare all my food the very first thing in the morning, before the blog post is up. For today ( yesterday menu) logged in Dietorganizer as 924 cal … not included the snack, it is actually more food than I can eat ( hubby drank my half evening smoothie).

My husband is enjoying green smoothies as well( he uses 600 gr of greens every day) so I am not afraid of spoiling any produce … whatever we buy get used : )

I have been flirting with raw food since 2008 and have mostly done smoothies … it is easy and fast, but I must admit I do love chewing, tasting and being mindful when eating salad. .. so for now I favor the salads.

    • Alright Janne! I mad a mistake this morning and scheduled my blog post for June 7th and not June 6th. I was so angry at myself b/c I knew a lot of people were depending on my post early this morn before they went to work. I had to use my affirmation…”I’m doing the best I can….”

  8. Some smoothies are good, others are more difficult for me to get down. But I am NOT a healthy eater, so I need my palate to adjust!
The logistical challenge is keeping track of all these fruits/veggies in our fridge! And I am perpetually worried they will spoil before I eat them 🙂
It is fun doing this with my husband 🙂

    • I remember how difficult for me at first. Those were the days I had to hold my nose. I couldn’t help thinking about this cleanse when listening to yesterday’s sermon on picking up your board (like Noah) for how ever long it took. Can you imagine doing this for 100 years?
