14 Day Summer Cleanse: GET READY!!

Who’s with me? Let’s take our bodies back in a challenging, inspiring, and hard core kind of way! I began pondering over this cleanse after becoming very frustrated over the 5 pounds of baby weight hanging out on my hips and belly since my daughter was born 18 months ago. I had always wondered if eating Cottage Cheese/ 6 Tbsp of Flaxseed Oil everyday was not allowing my body to shed those extra pounds?

For those of you who are new to my story- I had cancer 3 years ago, treated it holistically, and CC/FO, along with the rest of my food being raw vegan was the most important ways in how I did so. The only way I would ever stop taking CC/FO, and only temporarily, would be if I were on a 100% raw vegan diet, not 75-80% like I am currently. So, I figured if I were going to do a cleanse, why not have others do it with me? I’ll plan it, you just have to follow.

What is a “Cleanse” you ask? It’s a nutritional, spiritual, and physical way to rid your body of toxins. We will focus on a raw vegan diet, slow movement and stretching of the body, and prayer and affirmation in a different way each day.

In preparation for our cleanse, we will spend each day this week learning the logistics of the Cleanse.

Tomorrow, I will give your Cleanse grocery list, sample menu, and tips on how to save money and survive the difficulties of having to eat raw for 14 days. If you can only half-way do the Cleanse due to finances or just aren’t ready to commit 100%, take a look at what meals you feel are doable for you and buy those items.

Wednesday, I will give you a more detailed run-down of how the Cleanse will work.  The logistics on how to make your day work around all of this juicing and blending is a science I have become pretty proficient in. I will share! I will also discuss the psychological advantages and disadvantages in how to participate in a cleanse like this. Remember- I did this for 6 MONTHS after being diagnosed with cancer. I consider myself an expert in this area.

Thursday, we will discuss basic relaxation, stretching, and yoga. I am not a professional “yogi” by a long shot. I find it difficult to keep my mind quiet and hold poses without getting angry at the fact that I am unflexible and ackward. BUT we will try together, and if you are a yoga master in training, please feel free to write me and chime in on my “Comments” section

Friday, you will see the premier of my first VIDEO, yeah! As an elementary school teacher, I use the old Chinese proverb “You hear you forget, you see you remember, you do you understand” as the foundation of my teaching. I’m thinking if you SEE me chop the veggies, how I store them to save time, and watch me make the smoothies in my Vitamix, you’ll get a much more confident idea of how this Cleanse will go. Then, you can DO it along with me!

I will begin the cleanse this Saturday, June 4th, but you are welcome to catch on at anytime. The weekend is a great time to begin so you can get the logistics down without having to rush off to work!

Lastly, if you want to go 100% into this Cleanse, the following pieces of equipment or materials will be VERY helpful:

A really sharp knife, a decent juicer (I use a Breville), a blender or ideally a Vitamix (I find it is REALLY difficult to consume some of the smoothies without the consistency the Vitamix blends up), 30- 1 gallon Ziploc bags or plenty of containers to store chopped veggies and fruits in your refrigerator. (If you don’t have a juicer, I suggest doing your best with eating additional raw veggies or buying a store-bought green juice from a health food store- although this does not compare to freshly juiced veggies! Without the veggie juice aspect of this diet you will probably find yourself getting hungry.)

Start thinking about doing this Cleanse with me and please let me know in the “Comments” section what you think! Like I said above- “Who’s with Me?”

  1. Thank you very much for sharing this. I am going to give it a try. I have been eating unhealthy and am ready to experience a change. Taking it a few days at a time. 🙂

    • Totally take it just a few hours at a time! And if you need to reward yourself with small things, try organic rice cakes or dehydrated fruit. IT helps sometimes to reward yourself for even the smallest efforts. (: It’s better than quitting altogether.

  2. Thanks for that info! That is very helpful. The book I read really didn’t give any vegetarian/vegan options. While I am by no means a vegetarian- I enjoy meat way too much- it’s nice to know what combinations of things make for complete protein as that was not discussed in the book. It will also help my grocery bill since sometimes eating that much meat/dairy is just plain expensive.

  3. I am so glad you are doing this. I was rediagnosed with anal cancer in feb and your site got me going on the protocol I am doing now. A ph alkaline diet. I had surgery to remove a tumor in liver in April. It was much smaller than first diagnosed and the only thing I did was change my diet and drink only alkaline water. I am going radiation and chemo to rid the anal tumor but I feel so strongly about how our diet has caused these issues and that it can cure us too

So I am totally in. as far as blood sugars. I am a diabetic with an insulin pump and when I am following the diet very carefully I hatdley need any extra insulin. I am also walking about 2 miles a day and am very energized. We do not need meat or dairy to be healthy and strong.

I must admit I have not done the cottage cheese and flax seed oil. Very week stomach. I could not get the fresh wheat grass shots down in the morning. So I knew the other would not work. I do add a powder of wheat grass in my morning smoothie. I am hoping I can add more things later

So again I am totally in and can not wait to see your two week plan
    Thanks

    • Irene- Thank you for taking the time to let me know this! It am so happy you’re doing so well under the circumstances! The cottage cheese/ flaxseed oil was AWFUL for the first month or so whenI first started. Holding me nose really helped. I think that alone had such an impact on the cancer. BUT I totally understand that it can be difficult. Can’t wait to ge things started on Saturday!

  4. Hey Cort! I’m just curious how you keep your blood sugar stable without eating any complete protein. I noticed that there is not a single source of complete protein on this list. I just finished reading a nutrition book called “Body Confidence,” and so I’ve been much more aware of my need for protein. If we don’t eat enough protein, our bodies are forced to burn muscle for fuel, slowing down our metabolism. The idea of a “cleanse” sounds good, but not at the risk of slowing my metabolism!

    • Good Question! I’m not familiar with the book, but I CAN tell you that plants contain all kinds of different amino acids and when eaten together, many of these amino acids join up to FORM complete proteins. Complete proteins (mainly from meat but also soy beans and quinoa) are made up of all 9 “essential” amino acids. They’re “essential” b/c your body can’t make them on its own. Funny enough, the body has to break the complete protein back down into amino acids to absorb it anyways! Your body doesn’t NEED proteins, it NEEDS amino acids. So to answer your question- your blood sugar will be fine. Like I said in my first post- you need to keep eating if you’re hungry, just eat the right stuff! The plant protein sources in the cleanse (beans, lentils, sprouts, spinach, nuts, etc.) will work together to form these “complete proteins” and the world will be at peace. 🙂 AND if you still aren’t convinced, throw some quinoa in your salad or smoothie to ease your mind. 🙂

  5. Hey Cortney, i have been reading you for a while now, and have gotten a juicer and greatly increased the amount of raw veggies in my diet! It is easy (ish) for me because I am one of the lucky few who LOVE fruits and veggies and had a pretty light diet of processed foods. I however smoked for almost 10 years!!! (ridiculous! I was a yogi who smoked and ate mostly organic. so sily!)

I quit last Aug and now have become completely obsessed with having a healthy life style. I started working out, shed 10 lbs, and cut out any not free range and organic meat. I also got a veggie juicer and started juicing! I have to try to undo as much damage as I can. I know smoking took a huge toll on my body and I will probably never be able to undo all of the damage. But I think a raw cleanse is essential to getting the toxins out!

I am nervous. but count me in!!!! I am so glad you will have a plan for me to follow!

    • YES!!! This is so great to hear!! Let me know whatever I can to to support you. This will be an awesome 2 weeks for you AND you’ll be able to share it with others! I don’t think it’s too late to reverse your smoking damage…it might just take a little while. And we’re still youngins….c/o 2000 woot woot!

  6. I am still bf so I can’t commit 100% but will be incorporating more raw foods and juicing more for myself and my family. Can I ask what is cc/fo?

    Thanks

  7. just say this on lindsey’s facebook and im considering it, i could use a cleanse, and some dedicated quiet time. how does it do on energizing you? thats my biggest concern; that i’ll fall out from standing all day at work, lol.

    • Hi Joy!
Because of all of the awesome nutrients in the food we WILL be eating, I think you will have plenty of energy. Check in tomorrow for my post on the food list and sample meals to see what you think. 🙂

  8. Yalla from Dubai! I’m in….I have a blender…but I don’t have a vitamix…I’ll do what I can in terms of the smoothies….but I cant wait for my Vitamix stateide in a few months:)

  9. Sounds like an interesting endeavour. Think its safe while breastfeeding? I read somewhere that decoding while BFing is bad bc it releases toxin in the milk. What do you think?

    • Cynt- I would NOT do the cleanse while BFing. You will definitely relase toxins. Come back and visit these posts in a few months/ year when you stop BFing. Maybe I’ll do it again with you….or Kev and Bronson can do it. HA!

  10. Count me in…I was in Korea last week and in Africa this week…between the kimchi, safari food, and airplane food, I am in serious need of a detox…I get back this weekend so this sounds perfect!
