Beauty and Hygiene Products

Welcome to my nontoxic beauty products page! In it you’ll find everything I currently used and have used in the past to keep toxins at a minimal level in my beauty and hygiene routine and in my life as a whole. 🙂

Shampoo & Conditioner

If you really want to go 100% completely natural in your hair care, then “No Poo” with baking soda and vinegar wash would be worth a try. I loved No-Pooing for about a year while I was cutting costs and trying to avoid toxic products. If that’s not your thing, here are a few options of shampoos and conditioners that are completely non-toxic and a 2 or below on the EWG Skin Deep scale (lower is less toxic.)

Acure Organics Shampoo and Conditioner

Andalou Shampoo and Conditioner

Hugo Naturals Shampoo and Conditioner

Natural Baby and Kid Shampoo: Shea Moisture or Hugo Naturals

 Soap

Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap

Soap can be kept very simple. I like Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Soap (which you can use in many homemade products as well and is cost-effective!) But my all time favorite soap is Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Bar which keeps my skin super moisturized. You can also pick it up at Target stores.

Facial Cleansing

The best way to take care of your skin and cleanse it at the same time is to avoid stripping its natural oils. The most effective and affordable way to do this is by using the Oil Cleansing Method. This was a game changer for my acne-prone skin, and I’ve been using it since 2009. You will need to purchase two quality oils to start. My favorite are a 3 to 1 blend of castor oil to olive oil. Click HERE for a post on how to use the method.

Lovely organic washcloths to use with Oil Cleansing Method

If oil cleansing method is not for you, I have also used and am a big fan of Annmarie Gianni Cleansers.

If you’re more into intricate, homemade recipes for facial cleansing, I love Crunchy Betty’s recipes.

Make-Up + Moisturizer

annmarie gianni review

I really, really love Annmarie Gianni products. Pretty much all of them. They are beautifully made, hand-crafted, and 100% naturally from the earth. They have some excellent sample kits so you can try out their different products before spending a ton. Here are my favorites:

Annmarie Gianni Popular Product Sample Kit: This kit is great because it’s practically free. You pay $10 at checkout and get a $10 coupon towards a future purchase! If you are not sure of your skin type and which product is best for you, take the skin type test HERE.

To discover your skin type, this QUIZ has been really helpful.

My Daily Annmarie Skincare Routine:

In Shower in the morning: Aloe-Herb Cleanser and Kaolin Scrub

After drying off: Neroli Toner, Anti-Aging Oil or Anti-Aging Serum. This anti-aging sample kit is great for trying out the anti-aging line.

Then, I brush on Annmarie Minerals Foundation: You can use it two ways: combined with their moisturizing oil blend as a liquid or on top of a primer of choice as a powder (I apply on top of primer oil.)

I’ve used the darker colors included in the sample kit as a bronzer for over TWO years. It is WELL worth the money!

**Note: Annmarie Gianni has excellent coupon codes on their Facebook page, so check that HERE before you checkout and pay.** 🙂

For my other makeup, such as eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow I use Bare Minerals. I have also used Poofy Organics and 100% Pure.

Deodorant

primal pit paste

I’ve tried a lot of natural deodorants and know that they are not created equal. In 2011 I started making my own homemade deodorant and haven’t turned back.

If you aren’t into homemade deodorant, Primal Pit Paste works really well too and there are several modes of application and scents to choose from. And just FYI- both of these options still lets you sweat like your body is supposed to, so don’t expect them to be anti-perspirant; you don’t want that anyway.

Dental Care

FFT-PS-Wht-Peppermint-Pst-web

Toothpaste: Jason’s Power Smile

Toothbrush: Sonicare Electric Toothbrush with UV Disinfector  for Two or Budget Friendly Version

Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil 3-5 times a week for 20 minutes. Read post HERE.

Floss Daily.

  1. I am kind of surprised that you don’t promote Norwex for bath and face. Unless I am really dirty from working outside, I only use soap on 1 area on my body, genital and anal. Otherwise, I just do dry brushing daily and “spot cleaning” of places like face, armpits, and feet with a Norwex body cloth. I find less need for body lotions. And for someone in the Southwest, that is huge! Without using soaps on your body, skin doesn’t dry out as much, even with so-called moisturizing bars.

  2. Hi Cortney, I am amazed that ALL of your links go to Amazon. I often defer to Swanson Vitamins, or Walmart and find your same recommended items at a much reduced price! I know you speak of how expensive the anti-cancer diet is; so it would be a blessing to help many others save some money. I did just donate to your website fund, because your information has been such a blessing to me! I am grateful, just cannot figure out why with so many counterfeit items being sold there, so many sites ONLY use them as a retailer. I pray you might give this some consideration. I have no connection to Swanson, other than being a customer for about 8 years. They are reliable, and treat their customers with respect and consideration. Hope this is a lovely Spring for you and your family! You have a beautiful family…you are blessed!

    • Hi Vicky, yes I hear what you are saying. At some point in the future, when I have a bit more time to dedicate to my blog I would love to link over to reputable, smaller companies for supplements. I am remiss of the time to research new supplements and companies at this time (I have 4 children who I homeschool and don’t spend much time on my blog anymore), so until then, thank you for advocating for something other than Amazon! Often people need ease, and Amazon offers that to them. I imagine if they didn’t want to purchase from Amazon, they could write down the name of the item and purchase it elsewhere. I hope they do! I am so glad the website has been a blessing to you! Thank you so, so much for your donation. It means so much to me! 🙂

    • California Baby is always great. I use Alba SPF 45 with my kids for long days in the sun. They never burn and I’m convinced it is the foods high in antioxidants that they eat daily!

  3. I’ve been using Jason Powersmile. I looked at the label recently and saw that it contains carrageenan. I’ve been reading that this is not a safe ingredient.

    • I’ll have to check that out…it’s a digestive disruptor so as long as you’re not chowing down on toothpaste, I wouldn’t get too obsessive about it. Of course not everyone feels that way though. 🙂
