DETOX – Hydrocolon Therapy: Colonics and Enemas

Hydrocolon Therapy or receiving “colonics” is a process in which warm water is flushed through the colon (via your rectum) in order to safely cleanse out your large intestine. Colonics are typically administered at a licensed Colon Hydrotherapist office or health clinic.

The reason I pursued Hydrocolon Therapy was to address my digestive issues I had been having for a little over a year when I was diagnosed with cancer. I had chronic gas issues along with constipation and bloating. I went off all medication I had been on including birth control and still had persistent digestive problems. Even after eating a raw foods diet for 2 months my digestion was still problematic. After more research, my husband and I both felt colonics were the answer.

Hydrocolon Therapy DOES NOT treat cancer or even kill cancer cells. Its purpose is to cleanse the colon of any build-up or toxins that may be hanging out and unable to exit due to a person’s poor diet. Our typical American diet does not do a good job in cleansing the colon on a daily basis. The fact is we should be “going” a lot more often than we do!

Most resources I have been able to find have stated that the maximum amount of colonics one should receive is 1 per month, however I have also read when healing from major illness or suffering from digestive issues, you may want to do several colonics a week. I received 7 colonics in 10 days during my anti-cancer regimen. I took probiotics, or healthy bacteria the entire time to restore the healthy flora and bacteria in my gut. After my digestion was restored I personally did not find the need to continue getting colonics.

As with much of my alternative cancer treatment I was highly skeptical at the beginning and ended up being very convinced that colon hydrotherapy was extremely affective in restoring my digestive system to the state it needed to be in to help me fight the cancer.

Once the colon is cleansed and one continues on a mostly raw diet, your colon will be able to absorb the nutrients it needs to build up your immune system and aid in fighting the cancer. I have not had a colonic since January, 2009 and 2 years later continue to have phenomenal digestion and feel great.

Enemas:

Enemas are a “do it yourself” version of a colonic. You can buy an enema kit or bag from any drug store or you can buy healthier versions online. The one I bought is HERE. Enemas are not meant to replace colonics as they don’t cleanse as thoroughly or deeply, but they are a good alternative or supplement to colonics, or to relieve constipation. You may also read about “coffee enemas” which I have heard and read good things about from friends and other holistic cancer patients, but I have no advice or experience of myself.

After my 7 colonics over 10 days, I continued with “at home” enemas for about 5 days and then couldn’t do it anymore. Frankly, I was tired of lying on my bathroom floor and having to cleanse my own colon twice daily. Since my digestion was great, I took a break and haven’t gone back to doing enemas.

The best place I have found for finding a Colon Hydrotherapist is ColonHealth.net. This site also contains some of the best information I have been able to find on addressing the claims of some conventional institutions that Hydro Colontherapy is ineffective and dangerous. I found Colon Hydrotherapy to be only extremely helpful, pain-free, and digestively uplifting.

  1. I truly believe our bodies are made to heal themselves if we provide live food, rest, exercise and a stress free lifestyle. My mom turned 85 in July is on no medication and works with me in a family own hydrocolon therapy business. We have been cleansing together for almost 20 years. i worked with two other colonics places before owning our own business for over 6 years now. If you are challenged with an illness or want to continue good health…….always start and continue with cleansing the colon. Everything dumps into the colon with the exception of the urinary tract. 80% of the immune system is in the gut. Always start and end with colonics, the fountain of youth!

  2. Hi Rachel, I don’t know when you posted about your cancer, but I too have cancer and have been doing a modified version of the Gerson Therapy for a year and they can’t see it on my liver or spine any longer. I found that Chris Wark (www.chrisbeatcancer.com) has great information especially his interview with Dr. Patrick Vickers. I really believe God gave us bodies that will heal themselves if we give them what they need to do so. Chris Wark and Dr. Patrick Vickers have no idea who I am, but I am on the same page as them when it comes to healing ourselves. I hope the best for you.

  3. It is really a nice and helpful piece of information.

  4. Meant to also add thank you for sharing something personal so that we could all benefit from it. I am currently pregnant with our 5th child and have learned that I may have thyroid cancer. Your story is inspiring and trully helpful. It gives me some hope and direction. Thank you!

  5. I wasn’t able to find the link for the at home enema you had chosen. Said it was no longer available on amazon. Would you mind sharing the name please. I would like to look into some and just wanted to find which worked for you. And do you still use an enema once a month for maintenance? Also how do you know when you are pretty regular? Thank you

  6. Good day! Would you mind if I share your blog with my twitter group?
There’s a lot of folks that I think would really enjoy your content. Please let me know. Thank you

  7. I’m interested in the “real” story here. What do you and the technician talk about in there? “So, how’s your rectum today?” Is it awkward? How do you excuse yourself from your spouse to lie on that bathroom floor? Did you have to gear yourself up in Walgreens to purchase the Jumbo-Pak of Fleet’s enemas? What was that whole experience like?
