The “Orange Blossom Special” Smoothie

Dolly Parton makes me so happy. Really it’s her music and quirky personality that I love most, but I also love that she’s petite (almost 5’2″) like me and rose from very humble beginnings to global stardom.

Listening to Dolly this afternoon as my daughter relentlessly begged me for an orange- inspired this smoothie. No, I know what some of you are thinking. It’s next ingredient isn’t melons. (:

This smoothie is sunny and sweet. And since Dolly’s live album from 2002, Live and Well opens with the classic bluegrass tune, “Orange Blossom Special,” this smoothie got its name.

The Orange Blossom Special

2 small oranges (or 1 large)- peel and remove seeds

1 carrot

5 strawberries (I used frozen)

1/4- 1/2 cup water

stevia (I add 3-5 drops of Stevita liquid stevia)

Directions: Put oranges in blender first so the juice will be used to blend other ingredients. Put other ingredients in next. Add 1/4-1/2 cup water as needed. You could also add some spinach if you’re feeling on making it green. Blend well with Vitamix or other blender. Add stevia to taste. I buy the liquid stevia since I have found it doesn’t leave a funky aftertaste common with the powdered variety. Drink while listening to Dolly. (:

  1. Melissa and I are ready for your 14 day cleanse as soon as school gets out. Are you still planning to do a post about this?
