(This post is part of the ongoing “Ultimate Cancer Fighting Kitchen” series.)

The Budwig Protocol or “Cottage Cheese/ Flaxseed Oil” is just as, if not more important than my other cancer fighting staple, the green veggie smoothie. The research of German biophysicist, Dr. Johanna Budwig is highly respected and has stood up to skeptics through over 60 years of medical progress. It’s so unfortunate that this one simple combination of food can make such a difference in fighting cancer and yet is so ignored by mainstream medicine.

The Budwig mixture is effective on its own for a more holistic approach, but it can also be combined with a chemotherapy or radiation regimen with no known interference and shows evidence of increasing effectiveness in chemotherapy treatment.

Until recently, my challenge with Budwig sat with its “unique” taste, but I am now SO HAPPY to share my latest discovery in making the Budwig protocol, could I say- DELICIOUS?

“CCFO”

If you asked my daughter, Ruby-Claire what her mommy ate for breakfast every morning, she would gladly tell you – “CCFO!”

Almost everyday for the past four and a half years I have consumed this 840 calorie cancer-fighting powerhouse. Eaten with a cancer-fighting raw-vegan diet, weight gain should not be an issue, and in fact even on my current diet of 50-60% raw with organic meat several times a week, I still maintain my weight. If you’re not a fan of cottage cheese, you may find this protocol especially challenging, but take it from someone who ate it with their nose pinched for 15 months, YOU CAN DO IT! I absolutely hate cottage cheese, but LOVE the success I had with the Budwig Protocol.

Perseverance is very important when using Budwig to rid the body of cancer. Dr. Budwig herself states the importance in her book, Flax Oil As a True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer and Other Diseases, that one who engages her protocol must continue on it for 5 years, or otherwise increase the likelihood of their cancer returning, perhaps with a vengeance. You are in it for the long haul and must become comfortable with Budwig preparation.

When I began the protocol (on November 4th, 2008- Election Day) I gagged and then gagged some more. This is where the nose pinching began and later gave me the idea for pinching my nose to drink my green smoothies. I didn’t need to pinch my nose forever, so trust me when I say it gets better quickly and you get tougher.

I didn’t have an immersion blender when I started the Budwig Protocol, so I used my Vitamix. I found out quickly that the Vitamix is not the best tool for making “CCFO.” First of all, the blade is set a little too high to thoroughly mix the cottage cheese and oil. It is is very important for the cottage cheese and oil to be mixed thoroughly, as there is a chemical reaction that occurs when the two combine to bind the sulfuric protein in the cottage cheese with the oxygen in the Omega-3 rich flaxseed oil.

Remember that the cancer-fighting science behind the protocol is to transport oxygen IN to the cancer cells to destroy them (cancer survives off glucose and HATES an oxygenated environment.) Read the full science behind it in the post I wrote HERE.

The second reason the Vitamix will not work for “CCFO” is that it is difficult to get ALL of the mixture out of the Vitamix and can lead to frustration and a waste of the mixture, not to mention YOU giving up easily. Eating enough CCFO is an important part of the process. You need the correct dose, so leaving a portion of the mixture in the Vitamix because you can’t reach it is NOT ideal.

The last reason is EASY CLEAN-UP. I clean out my immersion blender with dish soap in less than 20 seconds.

I love my immersion blender combined with my “CCFO Cups” that are the perfect size for the blender and amount of CCFO needed for the protocol. Another helpful tip is to use a 2 cup measuring cup to measure out the cottage cheese. Then, add the oil, blend in the cup, and eat the mixture from the measuring cup. I did this many times at the beginning of my protocol until measured enough times to start eyeballing the mixture.

Now For That “DELICIOUS” Recipe…

Ok, my magic gem ingredient for my new and improved CCFO is Stevita Chocolate Flavored Liquid Stevia. Initially I thought it was too good to be true, but I found the Stevita company to be a true proponent of natural health. In researching for this post, I gave them a call to ask about the generic term of “natural chocolate flavor” in the liquid chocolate stevia. I spoke to a kind lady named Diane who informed me that it is made from cocoa beans they buy from farmers in Brazil, so it is NOT an artificial chocolate flavoring.

Chocolate Pudding “CCFO”

2/3 cup organic 1%, 1.5% or 2% cottage cheese (Nancy’s brand is the best. After posting the above picture, I learned Whole Foods brand contains carrageenan which is not helpful for anyone fighting cancer.)

6 Tbsp organic flaxseed oil (I prefer Barleans for their quality and reputation)

10 drops of Stevita Chocolate Flavored Stevia

Directions: Mix cottage cheese and flaxseed oil using an immersion blender first. Make sure to scoop all of the cottage cheese mixture out of the blender head. The cups I use are the perfect size for making this without frustration. Once mixture is completely combined (you shouldn’t see any trace of standing oil,) add 10 drops of chocolate flavored stevia and ENJOY. I may also try experimenting with REAL cocoa powder in the future, so stay tuned to an update of this post if so or try it out yourself.

If chocolate isn’t your thing, I have also had readers tell me that they add the plain mixture to smoothies or add berries and nuts. One woman even says that she makes the CCFO mixture and adds salsa and loves it.

Get creative and remember that the Budwig mixture can be eaten as a cancer PREVENTATIVE food also!
