Weekday Vegetarianism is for ME and YOU!

If you’ve been visiting Green Drink Diaries often, you probably know my story. I beat Stage II NLP Hodgkin’s Lymphoma using holistic/alternative/ nutritional (call it what you’d like!) cancer protocols within 8 months of diagnosis. A few months into my remission and being in my last trimester of pregnancy (yes- I had cancer and was pregnant) I decided that I needed to add meat back into my diet in small doses. I was ridiculously hungry! Then came nursing and I was so hungry I would have eaten a pound of Crisco.

So this began “Weekday Vegetarianism.” It’s exactly what it says. Eat a Vegetarian diet 5 days a week and then the other two days you can eat what you’d like.

Alternative Breast Cancer Survivors

Alternative/Holistic Breast Cancer Survivors

As pink ribbons pop up all over this month, I want to give special tribute to those breast cancer survivors that took a road less traveled. After being diagnosed with cancer, terrified patients turn to their doctors for guidance and reassurance that things will be okay. What you do next is what will set your journey apart. The women in this series are different because they challenged the standard recommendation of just surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation and dug deep down inside for what they needed to do to beat their cancer. These are their stories.

Online Alternative Cancer Support

When I posted my “A Day in the Life: “Facing the Critics” post last week, I know it must have left some of you feeling unsupported by the online cancer community in your holistic cancer endeavors. However, fear not! There are several excellent online support systems out there that are accepting and supportive towards Alternative/ Holistic Cancer protocols and more conservative treatments…

A Day in the Life: Holistic Cancer Treatment

NEW SERIES: A DAY IN THE LIFE

As I rummage around on the internet, there is a lot of information about what to expect when fighting cancer with chemotherapy and radiation. But what about those treating their cancer with alternative methods? How is it different from those who choose a more conventional path?

14 Day Summer Cleanse: Salads and Smoothies

My original plan was to make a movie about this. That didn’t happen. Maybe another day soon! BUT, I do have some lovely and colorful pictures for you, so here we go!

Wednesday I wrote about the logistics of making things easier for you while you’re eating raw these next 14 days. Here is what it looks like for me:

14 Day Summer Cleanse: Making RAW Work!

$174 worth of veggies and fruits! The power better NOT go out!

Going Raw…

Committing to a raw foods diet sounds all healthy and great in conversation, but if you have ever tried to live the lifestyle, you’ll begin to see how much work it really can be. Today I will discuss how to make RAW foods work for you and your family (especially the ones who are not participating!) This is a long post but SO IMPORTANT. Make sure you read it thoroughly!

14 Day Summer Cleanse: NOT Rabbit Food!

Even I am a little nervous to start this. I admit that thoughts of “What if I can’t make it?” “What if I cheat?” come to my mind, too. I think the most important point to remember when starting a raw, vegan cleanse/ detox like this is to BE EASY on yourself. It isn’t easy,  it is a process! If you are hungry, EAT! Be forgiving of yourself and DON’T become obsessive. I will be drinking more green veggie juice or eating a piece of fruit when I feel like I just need a little more. If you feel tired or faded, you need to eat more! Today I have included a grocery list for you to print out and Day 1 meal plan to give you an idea of what a raw cleanse looks like. I will also make suggestions for altering the plan according to your specific health challenge if you have one. This is NOT rabbit food. Read on!
